Enamel model paint gives the hardest, most durable finish in scale
modeling. It self-levels as it dries, which hides brush marks better
than any other paint type — the reason it's still the standard for
hand-brushed detail work decades after acrylics arrived.
The trade-off is dry time and cleanup. Enamels take hours rather than
minutes to cure fully, and they need mineral spirits or an enamel
thinner rather than water.
Our enamel range covers Testors' 1/4oz square bottles and spray cans,
Revell Email Color in 14ml tins, and Alclad's candy enamels. Filter by color and finish to narrow it down.
A note on layering: enamel over acrylic is usually safe, acrylic over enamel is not — the solvents in enamel will lift an acrylic coat underneath. Prime accordingly, and let each coat cure fully.
