Pop Race: Hong Kong's Tuner-Culture Diecast Brand

Pop Race was founded in Hong Kong in 2019 by Marchy Lee, and that name is the reason the models are what they are. Lee has raced professionally since he was nine years old, working up through karting and formula cars into WTCC and GT racing, with a Formula BMW title and an Audi R8 LMS Cup championship along the way. In 2015 he started his own team, X Works, which has competed in GT World Challenge Asia, Super GT, Super Taikyu and the Macau Grand Prix.

Pop Race came out of that. Lee has said companies kept approaching him about turning his race cars into scale models, and since he collected model cars himself, he decided to build the brand instead. The early catalog was almost entirely X Works GT machinery.

That origin still shows. The Audi R8 LMS "Evisu Racing X Works" in this collection is literally the founder's own team car. Most diecast brands license a livery. This one raced it.

Why collectors pay attention

Most 1:64 brands cast the same dozen JDM heroes. Pop Race picks the cars nobody else bothers with: Singer 911 restomods, RE-Amemiya rotary builds, Pandem widebody Datsun 620 pickups, Volvo 850 estate touring cars, Skyline drift concepts. Event exclusives and chase pieces

Pop Race ties a lot of its output to shows: Tokyo Auto Salon, the Macau Grand Prix, Hong Kong toy salons, and US convention editions like the Diecast Super Con Las Vegas Civic EG6. These are produced in small runs, and when they're gone they're gone. They typically sell above issue price on the secondary market, so if one is sitting in stock here, that's worth noticing.

What you actually get

Opening hoods on selected castings, rubber tires, correct aftermarket wheel designs, proper lowered stance, and sharp livery printing that holds up under magnification. Standard releases run roughly $23 to $32. Event exclusives and chase variants sit higher, usually $38 to $46.

Best suited to 1:64 collectors who care about tuner and motorsport subjects specifically, rather than broad-catalog buyers. If you're new to the brand, start with a Pandem or an RWB casting and you'll see the difference from mass-market 1:64 immediately.
