HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Sikorsky MH-60L Black Hawk operated by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), known as the “Night Stalkers,” represents one of the most capable special operations helicopters fielded by the United States Army. Derived from the standard Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, the MH-60L variant was specially modified for low-level, night, and high-risk infiltration missions. Equipped with advanced avionics, defensive countermeasures, and enhanced navigation systems, it was designed to insert and extract special operations forces in hostile environments under cover of darkness.
During Operation Gothic Serpent in 1993, MH-60L helicopters of the 160th SOAR played a central role in missions conducted in Mogadishu, Somalia. The operation aimed to capture key faction leaders during the Somali Civil War, part of a broader United Nations–backed humanitarian and stabilization effort. On October 3–4, MH-60Ls were deployed in support of U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force operators during the raid that led to the Battle of Mogadishu, an intense urban firefight that would later become widely known as the “Black Hawk Down” incident.
The MH-60L fleet was heavily involved in troop insertion, aerial command coordination, and casualty evacuation during the chaotic urban combat that followed. Two MH-60Ls were shot down during the engagement, dramatically escalating the mission into a prolonged rescue and defense operation under fire. These events became a defining moment in modern U.S. special operations history and highlighted both the risks and critical importance of rotary-wing support in urban warfare environments.
Beyond Somalia, MH-60L Black Hawks and their variants have supported numerous special operations missions across global theaters, including operations in the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Throughout these deployments, the 160th SOAR has maintained a reputation for precision, night-fighting capability, and rapid response insertion under extreme conditions. The Black Hawk platform remains one of the most essential assets in U.S. special operations aviation.
This 1:48 scale model is a highly detailed tribute to one of the most intense and consequential helicopter operations in modern military history. Featuring authentic markings and mission-specific configuration, it captures the rugged capability and heroic service of the Night Stalkers. Perfect for collectors of special operations aviation and modern combat history, this replica is a powerful and meaningful display piece honoring courage under fire.
