HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Panzerkampfwagen 35(t), originally developed as the Czechoslovak LT vz. 35, was adopted by Nazi Germany after the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939. Produced by Škoda and ČKD, the light tank was considered advanced for its time, featuring a 37mm main gun, a 49mm-thick frontal armor plate, and a reliable Praga engine. Once absorbed into the Wehrmacht, it was designated Pz.Kpfw.35(t), with the “(t)” standing for tschechisch (Czech), acknowledging its origin.
Pz.Kpfw.35(t) played a key role in early World War II campaigns. During the Invasion of Poland in 1939, the tank performed well against Polish forces, providing mobile armored support to Germany’s fast-moving divisions. It was again employed during the Battle of France in 1940, where its agility and firepower proved sufficient against Allied light armor. However, mechanical reliability in cold climates and insufficient armor against newer enemy tanks began to highlight the platform’s limitations.
The tank’s final major service was in Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. There, Pz.Kpfw.35(t) units struggled with the harsh terrain and climate, which exposed their weak suspension and inadequate winterization. As newer and more capable German tanks like the Panzer III and IV came into full service, the 35(t) was gradually withdrawn from frontline duty. Some units continued to serve in anti-partisan roles and with secondary armies such as those of Slovakia and Romania.
This 1:35 scale model is complete with riveted armor panels, accurate suspension components, and fine surface textures. A perfect addition for collectors and history enthusiasts, it offers a glimpse into Germany’s early Blitzkrieg tactics and the critical role Czech engineering played in the Wehrmacht’s early success.
