The BR 20 "Cicogna" low-profile medium bomber was developed by the Italian company Fiat during the 1930s. He entered service in 1936 and was characterized by a metal frame and retractable chassis. At the time, it was a modern and fast aircraft. It was used by the "Aviazione Legionaria" and was baptized by fire in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. In September 1940, the "Corpo Aereo Italiano", consisting of the 13th and 43rd "Stormo da Bombardamento", was also equipped with it. The "Storms" were based in Belgium and supported the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain. Despite the limits revealed by the encounter with modern RAF fighters, the BR-20 was used throughout World War II on a number of fronts by several Regia Aeronautica bomber squadrons.
