HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 "Black 1" of 2./JG 54 was the mount of Oberleutnant Otto Kittel, one of the most successful Luftwaffe fighter aces of World War II. Kittel, flying with Jagdgeschwader 54 (JG 54), earned his reputation on the Eastern Front, where he amassed an astonishing 267 confirmed aerial victories. His Fw 190A-8, one of the later variants of the famous fighter, was equipped with increased armor protection and firepower, making it a formidable opponent against Soviet aircraft.
JG 54, known as the "Green Hearts," operated extensively on the Eastern Front, engaging Soviet fighter squadrons and bomber formations in critical battles over territories such as the Baltic States and East Prussia. Kittel's aircraft, "Black 1," played a significant role in these air battles, intercepting formations of Soviet Il-2 ground-attack aircraft, which were crucial to the Red Army's advances. The Fw 190A-8’s superior speed, durability, and heavy armament allowed Kittel to dominate aerial engagements, making him one of the deadliest German aces in history.
Tragically, Otto Kittel was killed in action on February 14, 1945, when his Fw 190A-8 was shot down by a Soviet Lavochkin La-5 while attempting to engage Il-2 aircraft near Courland. His loss was a significant blow to JG 54, but his legacy as one of the top-scoring fighter pilots of World War II remains cemented in history. The Fw 190A-8 he flew represents the pinnacle of the aircraft’s evolution and its deadly effectiveness in combat.
This highly detailed 1:72 scale model perfectly captures the aircraft flown by Otto Kittel. Featuring authentic camouflage, accurate markings, and intricate panel detailing, this replica is a must-have for aviation history enthusiasts. A tribute to one of the most accomplished Luftwaffe aces, this model is an essential addition to any World War II aircraft collection.
