- In 1972, General Motors experienced the longest united automobile workers strike in history that lasted from April 7 to September 27. That 174 day period greatly impacted the production of the 1972 Pontiac T/A as only 1,286 were built. The only colors offered that year were Cameo White or Lucerne Blue. Pontiac didn't offer a Trans Am in black until 1976. Interestingly, a handful of special-order versions of the Trans Am painted Starlight Black escaped into the public, making them the first-ever black T/As. With this 1:18 scale die-cast, Auto World has replicated one of those rare cars. Under the hood, you will find the 068 high-lift cam, an open Shaker scoop, Rochester Q-Jet atop an aluminum intake manifold and the standard 455 H.O. engine. It made 300 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. That was an improvement from previous years. Auto World is happy to bring you this, rare, highly sought after muscle machine.
