Tamiya acrylics are the default recommendation for most modelers, and with good reason. They brush without leaving marks, thin cleanly for airbrush work, and the color range is deep enough that most builds never need another brand.

The numbering tells you what you're getting. X codes are gloss — X-1
Black, X-11 Chrome Silver, X-7 Red. XF codes are flat — XF-1 Flat Black, XF-2 Flat White, XF-16 Flat Aluminum. Interiors, engine bays and tires want XF; bodywork and bright trim want X.

Available in 10ml mini bottles for detail colors and 23ml for the ones you'll use constantly.

Worth knowing: Tamiya acrylic is alcohol-based rather than truly water-based. It cleans up with water while wet, but Tamiya's own X-20A thinner gives noticeably better flow and airbrush performance than water does. Isopropyl alcohol works for cleanup.
